This article is
If you might join the official resale tomorrow, read this from start to finish.
The reason is simple.
The official resale is
NOT a bargain-hunting opportunity.
If you act impulsively, you risk ending up with expensive, poor-view, regrettable seats. That risk is very real.
I actually made that mistake myself. I wrote about it honestly in a separate article.
(If you haven't read it yet, please make sure to check it out after reading this article.))

1. What happens tomorrow (Dec 15 local time, Dec 16 Japan time) - This is the most important part
As stated in FIFA's Q&A, the official marketplace is currently closed but will reopen on the 15th. (Summary from FIFA Q&A: closed Dec 4-11; from Dec 11 at 11 AM, existing ticket holders can list for sale only; full reopening from Dec 15.)

Since past operations have been based on US Eastern Time,
December 15US Eastern 11:00 AM (Japan time: Dec 16 at 1:00 AM) is the expected official resale reopening.
This is the most likely timing.
the official site only states 'from December 15 onward,'
- so the exact timing may vary slightly.
- a market-price-based ticket exchange. An official secondary marketplace run by FIFA.
- Sellers are ticket holders (lottery winners or past buyers).
- Prices
In other words,
driven by demand and availability (similar to a stock exchange).
Can go above or below face value.
2. What is the official resale? (To avoid misunderstanding)
These are NOT face-value prices.
- FIFA charges a service fee.
- In short, it is a marketplace where those who missed face-value tickets buy at market price.
- Just like stocks: buy high and you lose, buy low and you win. It's that simple.
.
Moreover,
nearly all ticket holders will be able to list on the resale market.
There is a chance that premium seats not previously available may suddenly appear.
As stated in the FIFA Q&A above, ticket holders have already been able to list their tickets during the post-lottery period. So right after reopening, reasonably priced tickets may appear.
However,
- the real opportunity comes not in the first moments, but rather after things settle down.
- is what I believe.
- 1. There is a risk of overpaying by buying impulsively right at launch.
2. Better seats may appear hours or days later.3. It is a common pattern for prices to ease after a few days.
3. Is Japan vs Netherlands a popular match?
Let me state the conclusion first.
Yes, it is quite popular.
The data speaks for itself. Below is pricing trend data from online ticket markets. (Do NOT buy from unofficial sites!!)
- Secondary market lowest entry price (get-in price):$677(Note: this is NOT the Cat 1 price. It is the lowest price for cross-comparison purposes.)
- Over the last 3 days, +5%
- clearly in the upper tier among all group stage matches.
I understand the temptation to think 'it might not be that bad.'
But the market has alreadydetermined that Japan vs Netherlands is in high demand. That is the market's verdict.
4. The landscape changed before and after the lottery
This is the key point. The site mentioned above shows price trends.
Before the lottery (before December 5)
- Opponent not yet determined
- On the official resale, around $850 Cat 1 transactions were recorded. (I wrote about this in detail in a previous chat article. This was the price on the day I used the resale for Match 11, which later became the Netherlands match.)
After the lottery (after December 5)
- Japan vs Netherlands matchup confirmed
- Secondary market levels jumped up a notch.
- First official resale after the lottery
In other words,
The resale starting tomorrow
is very likely to start higher than prices seen so far.
That is the bottom line.
5. Expectations for tomorrow's resale (Cat 1 price as reference)
I will not be vague here. Below are reference estimates using Category 1 as an example.
Expected Range
- $900-$1,050
- JPY equivalent:Approx. 135,000-158,000 JPY
Core Zone
- $950-$1,000
This is
- Pre-lottery resale
- Current secondary market
Taking all of this into account, estimatedrange.(This is purely anestimate. It may go higherorlower. Please understand this.).
6. What to do if pre-lottery prices (around $800, Cat 1 basis) appear
Here is the conclusion.
If prices in this range appear,
that is NOT a bargain.
- That IS the current market rate.
- If you see prices in the $800 range that were common pre-lottery,
- and they are available,
- that is relatively close to pre-lottery levels, meaning it is rare.
That is the reality.
7. Please do not repeat my mistakes
However,
- whether you should buy now is a separate question.
- Official resale prices
- change daily.
As a result,
- There is no need to rush.
- I once saw what I thought was a great seat on the official resale and bought it on impulse.
was my experience.
hard to see,
overpriced, and regret on the way home.
8. Action rules for tomorrow (just remember these)
- That was my experience.
- I wrote about it honestly in the article below.
- At Cat 1, I bought a seat over $300, but it was too far to the side with a poor view.
- Before tomorrow, please familiarize yourself with this cautionary tale first.
- Step 1: Just observe for the first 1-2 hours.
Finally (my honest thoughts)
Step 2: Do not decide instantly (think for at least 15 minutes).Step 3: Compare against the expected range above.Step 4: If unsure, do not buy. You can buy another day.
Just remember these four rules. The market moves every day. Tomorrow is NOT the last chance.Tickets are a means to paint the stadium blue.
Rather than impulsively grabbing an expensive seat, calmly choose a good one.
And please,
