[Official Resale] Part 6: Those Failed Tickets Turned Profitable After 3 Months

2026 FIFA World Cup Official Tickets Ticket
So far, in our "Resale Debacle" series, we have honestly written about our experience with the official FIFA resale, in which we invested 2.5 million yen. In the previous installment (Part 5), we wrote about a total ofMinus about 110,000 yenThis was an interim report - but it has been about two months since then. I checked the latest resale price and found that the situation has changed.

  • Part 2: Where to Buy? ─ Price Trends
  • Part 3: I decided on you ─ ─ Match Selection
  • Part 4: Press Pay Now - Settlement Documentation
  • Part 5: Seriously. ─ The Unexpectedness of Invoice
  • Part 5: What happened to the large number of tickets bought in the past? Interim report (-110,000 yen)
  • Part 6: Plastics have turned - Latest Earnings Analysis (this article)

Previously.

On November 24, 2025, I purchased 3 Category 1 tickets for the final tournament on the official FIFA resale marketplace for a total of 12 tickets. The total price was.Approx. $16,000 (approx. 2.48 million yen).

Immediately after purchasing the ticket, I had a series of unexpected problems, such as ”the seats are in different places” and "the tax in Seattle is 90,000 yen," and I honestly felt that the ticket was a "big failure" as the title suggests.

And in the December 21 interim report (Vol. 5), the real income/expense after deducting 151 TP3T in fees and commissions wasTotal minus about 110,000 yenThis was the result.

As of the 5th bullet point (December 21, 2025)
-114,000 yen
After deducting 15% fee ─ Still in the stage of card pending finalization

And two months later, I checked the latest price.

On February 20, 2026, we once again logged into the official FIFA resale marketplace to check the current prices in Category 1 for each match.

Here's the key.Fee Calculation Method.

FIFA Resale Commission Structure

When to buy:Ticket price + 15% buyer fee + state tax → buyer pays all

When to sell:Only 151 TP3T seller fee will be deducted from the selling price.Taxes are borne by the buyer and are not deducted by the seller.

That is, seller's proceeds =. Selling price × 0.85

In the previous article (Part 5), I wrote "amount listed x 85%", so this part is the same, but I have rearranged the exact formula this time. The state tax you paid as a buyer at the time of purchase is irrelevant when you sell.

Purchase details of the three games (review)

Match Venue Date rounds (e.g. nurse, security guard, etc.) the number of flat things Total Amount Paid
M076. Houston 6/29 R32 4 $3,580
M094 Seattle 7/6 R16 4 $6,210
M089 Philadelphia 7/4 R16 4 $6,210
Total 12 $16,000

Total payment includes all ticket costs + 15% buyer's fee + state tax: Houston, TX 0%; Seattle, WA 10%; Philadelphia, PA 5%.

Current resale value (as of February 20, 2026)

Match rounds (e.g. nurse, security guard, etc.) Cat1 Lowest Price Cat1 Highest
M076 Houston R32 $1,288 $27,111
M094 Seattle R16 $1,840 $57,500
M089 Philadelphia R16 $1,943 $23,000

Noteworthy.Seattle (M094) highest price $57,500(about 8.91 million yen!) This reflects the Round of 16 stage and the expectation of a steep rise depending on the matchup card. Of course, whether this will sell is another matter, but it conveys the temperature of the market.

Profit calculation: Simulation of selling at the lowest price

Be conservative here,If all tickets are sold at the current lowest priceThe following is an estimate of the The seller's proceeds are "Sold Price x 0.85" (15% commission deduction only).

Profit/loss per piece

Purchase price per unit selling price
(Lowest price)
Fees
15%
crafty person profit and loss
Houston $895 $1,288 $193 $1,095 +$200
Seattle $1,553 $1,840 $276 $1,564 +$12
Philadelphia $1,553 $1,943 $292 $1,652 +$99

All three games are in the black.Houston in particular added about $200 (about $31,000) per piece, while Texas benefited from a tax of 0%, which also worked when selling (the lower purchase cost resulted in a larger margin).

Overall summary (total of 12 sheets)

Houston 4 $3,580 $5,152 $4,379 +$799 +22%

Discussion: Why did it turn positive?

Positive Factors

1. the effect of the draw for the Combination Lottery

After the December 6 final draw, price formation based on actual demand began as the potential matchup cards for each game came into view. The movement has been in line with what we wrote in our fifth article, "Prices tend to move when cards are finalized.

2. rarity of Round of 16

Seattle and Philadelphia are both in the Round of 16, and depending on the outcome of the group stage, could be a strong matchup, and if that happens, we can expect to see even higher prices.

3. stability of Houston

Houston (R32), which had the smallest investment, performed best with a return of +221 TP3T. The strategy of "buy cheap matches in low-tax states" turned out to be correct.

Continuing Risk Factors

The wall of 151 TP3T seller's commission remains the same.To be positive even if 151 TP3T is subtracted, it would need to sell for at least 17.61 TP3T higher than when it was purchased. We are above that line now, but it could go lower depending on the combination of cards we play against.

Possibility of saturation of the resale market as the convention approaches. It is possible to return tickets or release canceled slots.

This is a conservative estimate of "if sold at the lowest price".If you can sell at the median price, your profit will be in the thousands of dollars, but there is no zero chance that you will sell below the lowest price.

Was the previous ”fiasco” really a failure?

In retrospect, there were certainly elements that I have written about as "failures" in this series.

Seats are all over the place. → This still remains the same. Negative as a spectator experience.
90,000 in taxes in Seattle → It was painful as a cost at the time of purchase. However, when selling, the buyer pays the tax, so it does not affect the sale.
2.5 million in restricted funds → This also remains the same. The mental burden is great.

Just,When viewed as an "investment"The calculation is that in 3 months, 2.48 million yen has turned into 2.67 million yen. Of course, considering the risk involved, a simple comparison cannot be made, but at least we are no longer in a situation of "it ended in a fiasco.

Future Policies

These tickets are ultimatelyfor cheering on Japan's national team at the venue if they are playing thereIt is. This policy has not changed since the 5th round.

It depends on where Japan advances in the group stage:

Match Japan is coming → use as is for local support
Match in which Japan does not show up → Consider selling while monitoring the situation

In any case, I believe that the conclusion of the fifth bullet point, that there is no need to be overly concerned about duplicate winners, is further supported by these numbers.

Summary

This series, titled "The Resale Debacle," turned profitable in an unexpected turn of events.

Of course, it is not yet a fixed profit, and future price fluctuations could bring it back into the negative again. Just,Profit exceeds FIFA Resale's commission 30% structure (buyer 15% + seller 15%).This fact speaks to the strong demand for knockout stage tickets.

The next major milestone will be when the group stage pairings take shape. We will check prices again at that time and provide further updates.

The 2.5 million yen ”fiasco” turned into a 190,000 yen profit in three months.
The story continues.

(Note)

This article is based on personal experience and does not guarantee ticket prices or profits. The Japanese yen conversion is an estimate at 155 yen to the dollar. Resale prices are always subject to change and may turn negative in the future. Please plan ahead when using the resale.
